Using the Symbolism Tools, plus a bit of Gradient Mesh, learn to make a realistic window covered with raindrops. This is an advanced tutorial that assumes a fair amount of Illustrator experience, but everyone should be able to follow along. It can be done with earlier versions of Illustrator, but takes full advantage of newer features in CS4. Let’s get started!

When looking for top quality content, you’re usually forced to pay for your resources. They’re generally better and easier to work with, and offer a wider range of use. Sometimes though, you can find the same level of quality at zero cost, and it’s exactly what we’re going to do today. We’re going to create a detailed illustration with free gifts and self made goodies.

While creating things from scratch is an awesome way to showcase your style and technique, using stock photos is an easier way to add impacting detail to your work. To be able to do all that, we’ll be using various ways to separate photos from their backgrounds, manipulating them and altering the overall lighting, contrast, and color balance to finish off this complex illustration.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create an illustration of a model. We’ll be creating it in vector style, though using Photoshops Burn Tool to add some dimensionality to the illustration. By the end you’ll have enough information and practice to create your own. Although, it doesn’t require any special ability you should be proficient in the use of the Pen Tool.
